How it works
Length × width × depth (in feet), divided by 27, gives cubic yards. We multiply by 1.4 to estimate tons so you can order by weight.
Formula: (Length × Width × Depth÷12) ÷ 27 = cubic yards (× 1.4 = tons)

How many tons are in a cubic yard of gravel?
Most crushed stone and gravel weighs about 1.4 tons per cubic yard. We show both so you can order by volume or weight.
What depth for a driveway?
A new driveway base is typically 4–6 inches of compacted gravel; a topping course is 2–3 inches. Paths and sheds need about 2–3 inches.
Should I compact it?
Yes — plate-compact each lift so it doesn’t settle. Order a little extra to top up after compaction.
